Proactive Nurse is a web resource developed for healthcare professionals and maintained by Rae Stonehouse RN.

Years ago as an active participant in the Nurse Advocate internet group that discussed violence in the workplace he envisioned a worldwide network of healthcare professionals working together to reduce workplace violence. After thorough consideration of that concept he realized that the steadily increasing workplace violence in healthcare is a part of a larger, systemic problem.

There are many root causes of violence. At its basis though, lack of self confidence and personal skill development can be readily identified as some of those factors.

This website has evolved from the creation of several other websites and research drawn from many other personal growth and development disciplines.

Definitions:

Proactive: active in advance; anticipating trends and working to promote their development

Activism: the policy or practice of doing things with decision and energy emphasizing activity

Advocacy: from the Latin advocare --- to summon for counsel

Proactive Nurse is about personal empowerment that transcends one’s position in their organizational hierarchy.  Whether you are a professional nurse or a care-aid, Proactive Nurse has lots to offer you so that you in turn can facilitate change in your worksite for the betterment of your fellow staff and clients that you care for.
